Rab has 96 coves, about 200 beaches of different sizes, 38 capes and 20 cliffs – a very good indicator of how indented our coast is. The best way to experience it all is by kayaking. Come row with us on a magical adventure in which you will discover the original beauty of the flora and fauna of our coast. Rab itself has 103.2 km of coast, but when you add all the coastal lengths of other smaller islands around Rab, it comes up to 116.17 km. The territory of Kalifront is particularly interesting because every one of its beaches is different, both in shape and structure; we’ve got sandy beaches, rocky beaches, gravel beaches, or a mixture of it all, lining up one after another, right up to the cape of Kalifront. We can also offer you the unique pleasure of diving into our rich underwater world. The group of caves called Medova buža (Bear hole), with its see-through blue colour, treasures a variety of stalagmites and stalactites, as well as protected species of bats. The best way to learn more about the forces of nature is by rowing beneath the high narrow cliffs of Kamenjak (408), which has been shaped over the centuries by strong northern winds of up to 200 km/h. You can take part in the adventure by renting one of our kayaks or by being led by our guides who know the island like the backs of their hands – even though there's always something new to be found, even for us. Lopar has an abundance of beautiful sandy beaches; in fact, there are 22 of them, of which 3 are nudist beaches (Ciganka, Sahara and Stolac). The largest and most famous is the Rajska plaža or 'Paradise Beach', which is 1.5km / 0.9m long and has the most tourist facilities. Rajska plaža was awarded the 'Blue Flag' in 2003 – the international symbol of quality and preservation of the natural environment as well as safety for the bathers.
'Paradise beach' is especially interesting for older people, families with children and less proficient swimmers, but equally for young people keen on sport and amusement. At the height of the season it can be difficult to find sunbathing places on this beach because together with the tourists from Lopar, more than 50% of visitors to the town of Rab also bathe here.

City Rab : The Town of Rab is situated on a small peninsula, bounded by town walls, with its four impressive bell-towers it looks like a sailing ship with four masts, sailing tirelessly, sometimes slowly, sometimes through storms, but always heading forward. Kaldanac on the extreme southeast of the peninsula is believed to be the oldest part of town, and is characterized by straggling streets with several valuable sacral buildings. The remaining old part of the town up to the western town walls is distinguished by three longitudinal streets (Upper, Central and Lower Street) which are mutually connected by several smaller transversal streets. In this part one can also find a whole series of valuable monuments of the town's church and secular life through history. At the point where this part of the town ends, where once the entrance to the town and its gates were located, begins the newest part of the town, Varoš, with its magnificent, newly arranged square, in continuation of which, extending to the northwest lies the new part of town, with several hotels, shops and residential buildings, while to the west stands the town park Komrčar, the favorite promenade of the Rab inhabitants and of their numerous guests. According to the fragment of a Latin inscription, the Emperor Augustus Octavian's got walls erected around his colony as well as towers built for defense of the town. Thereby Rab, Arba, became a Roman Municipium - Felix Arba - which means that, like other Roman towns, it had its temples, squares, courts, public baths, aqueducts, theatres. Namely the epithet Felix was only applied to few towns and provinces of the Roman Empire as a token of gratitude for special merits or it served to emphasize the glory, ascent and prosperity of a town or province. This is evidenced by a small amphora with handle, only 15 cm. high, found in 1896 in a tomb in Nin, near Zadar, with the inscription Felix Arba. From Roman, Byzantine and Venetian times, through times of Hungarian and Croat rule, Rab changed its masters but throughout all these periods was spared from big destruction. |

Crkva sv.Marije: The Church of St.Mary and The Belfry of St. Mary's Church : One of the most important monuments is the 12th century Church f St. Mary. The Church, formerly the cathedral of Rab and now the parish church, was built in Romanesque style as an aisle basilica with three apses. Originally, in the 8th century, this was the site of another church few traces of which are extant. The church was consecrated in 1175 by pope Alexander III, who visited Rab while travelling from Zadar to Venice. It was repaired, modified and extended several times, and much of its original appearance is now lost. |
Zvonik sv.Marije: The belfry of the St. Mary's church: 26 metres high, is one of the most beautiful structures of this kind in the Adriatic regions. Its construction started in the 12th century and was completed in the early 13th century. The belfry consist of the ground story and the four stories, and ends at the top with an octagonal pyramid built in the 15th century instead of the former, rectangular pyramid destroyed by lightning. The top story has a window (aperture) with four beautiful arches. Each successive story – going downwards – has one arch less. A cross with five steeple balls surmounts the spire. |

In Barbat there is a sarkophagus: next to the parish church of Stjepana from the 5th century. In the middle of the side is carved in stone, a cross in a circle. The lid is cracked. There is a valuable cross in the church. Jesus nailed with stretched arms. At the head of the cross the Holy Spirit, on the right side the Holy Virgin, on the left side Saint Ivan. At the bottom of the cross the head of Adam's skeleton. The cross is from the sixth century and is one of the ten oldest crosses from Croatia. |

The history of the island of Rab:
The St. Euphememius Monastery: Some photos from the old box: |
Supetarska Draga : The fertile valley houses Supetarska Draga as well as Mundanije. Gornja and Donja (Upper and Lower) Draga have spread round the Draga Bay. The people of the Dragas have also combined modern and traditional ways of living, and this is easily sensed in tourist industry. There are guests who come back to the same hosts year after year, while new arrivals are quick to become attached to the place and the people. In the valley of Supetarska Draga there are the remains of a Benedictine monastery and St. Peter's Church, one of the most distinctive buildings of the period in Croatian territory. This monastery was founded in the second half of the 11th c., and it was abandoned in the 16th c. Archeological finds from this area are indicating the existence of some objects (probably of economic purpose) already in the ancient times, and there is a possibility that an Early Christian basilica was a predecessor of today's church. Present-day church is a three-nave early-Romanesque basilica with semicircular apses, a sculpturally defined gable of the portal and a line of consoles which bear the garret-cornice. The type of basilica is characteristic for the island area of Kvarner (Krk, Rab). A Romanesque bell-tower is preserved in its bottom portion, and it has been recently reconstructed in the upper zone. The preserved Gothic bell is from 1299, the oldest one on the eastern Adriatic coast. The monastery is abandoned in the 16th c., the building is later repeatedly rebuilt and today it serves partly as a parish house. Supetarska Draga , a town and cove in the north-western part of the island of Rab, 7 km north of the town of Rab; population 1,114. The cove is the submerged part of the field of the same name, formed of flysh deposits. The north-eastern coast is more suitable for docking; the inner and south-western coasts are low, shallow and muddy. The cove offers a suitable pier with muddy and sandy bottom (the maximum depth reaching 33 m), particularly during the bora and the sirocco. The best anchorage for smaller yachts is in the middle of the cove of Dumici; larger vessels are docked in the middle of the cove of Supetarska Draga. Economy is based on farming, fishing and tourism. In 1984 a new marina was constructed. A 150-m long breakwater provides good protection against the winds of the fourth quadrant. Supetarska Draga is located on the main road (M29) which passes through the whole island of Rab.
This paradise is divided into two places, on the right is Supetarska Draga Gornja. There is also a marina located where you can go to the technical department in case of a problem with your motorboat. POSITION : ACI marina Supetarska Draga lies in the Bay of Supetarska Draga. OPEN : All year round BERTHS : The marina has 274 berths and 53 boat places on land. Berths have water and power supply. FACILITIES : Reception, exchange office, restaurant, toilets and showers, grocery store, repair shop, 10 t crane, slipway, parking lot. The nearest gas station is in ACI marina Rab (11 NM). CONNECTIONS : The island has regular ferry lines between Stinica on the mainland and Mišnjak (17 km). During the summer the ferry line Lopar – Valbiska connects it with the island of Krk. There are bus lines from Supetarska Draga to Lopar (5 km) and Rab (7 km). If one follows this road one arrives in Lopar and San Marino. If you follow the left side of the bay, you arrive in Supetarska Draga Donja. Here one arrives in Dumići. At the end of this street you will see our pension - Restaurant Pivac on the left.
Your boat can best be watered on the left side of the bay Supetarska Draga on the yellow crane of Claudio and his father Branimir. They are cheaper and much faster than in the yacht harbor. They work very expertly and when you remove your boat they clean the underside of your boat with a high pressure. You can see the yellow crane from everywhere. If you have no good parking for your trailer at the house you rent, you can also park it here for € 1 per day. Take a lock from home to protect him.
Supetarska Draga is also interesting to people who come in boats; they are not limited to mooring off the shore, but can stay briefly by one of the neighbouring islets, Maman, Srednjak or Sailovac. In a sheltered cove are little islands which tourists frequently visit by hydrofoil and boats. These islands have sandy beaches and grottos as well as a rich undersea world of interest to sports fishermen. Many of the beaches are free for naturists. By the road to Lopar is a restored old water mill, the only one on the island.
