Diving Base " Aquasport " www.aquasport.hr | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Our diving base exists since 1995 and we are trying to give our guests a family atmosphere and lots of fun. Diving base is situated just near the sea. You just have to walk up the stairs. But don't worry, there is also a separate "room" for you to leave your equipment so you don't have to carry it up'n'down every day. We are located in Supetarska Draga on island Rab in a small cove called Gonar which is a great place for a relaxing family holidays. Gonar is also suitable for people with boats because of its position and various anchor points. There two shops and three restaurants nearby in which you can find meals of the traditional Mediterranean cuisine. This diving club also has very nice and luxurious apartments and is preferably rented out to people who also come to dive. For more info you can always inform them on their website (more info below). For those of you interested in statistical information, here it goes:
The boat has a platform for easier immersing and emerging and it is also equipped with medical gear, radio station, and a cell phone in case of emergency. Compressor station and storage room is situated just near the sea so you don't have to worry about equipment transport during your stay with us. This is an ideal place for those of you who are trying to run away from the diving industry. We are a diving family and we want that every one of you feels at home. Daily schedule can be easily adjusted according to your wishes and needs (breakfast is possible even at noon and hot donuts or pancakes at 3:00 AM after the night dive). Our wish is that you return home satisfied, relaxed, refreshed and happy! A short overview of what we have to offer:
Our dives are not time or bottle-size limited because we want to offer you a true diving pleasure and complete underwater relaxation. Of course, safety has always been our top priority and we have two experienced diving instructors that will keep you safe. Diving school is based on the SSI standards in a modern way which includes individual approach and didactic materials. Every student receives the following:
There is complete equipment, TV and DVD available for a student, plus, there is an option of interactive learning using the computer. Besides training adults, we offer a school for children older than 12 years (Junior Open Water Diver). Diving is a wonderful sport but unfortunately some people can't get rid of fear of water although they are anxious to learn how to dive. In order to save your money and time we give you the opportunity to take a "test dive" (a.k.a. scuba discovery) so you can evaluate yourself and your abilities.
On one of his usual dives, our diving instructor Riko had discovered his life's dream. He found a location of antique shipwreck with more than 125 greek-italo type amphoraes over 2200 years old. He immediately notified the Croatian Department for Archeological Research of his discovery. A team of archeologists, restaurateurs and film-makers made a first investigation of the area and found out what lies beneath all those amphoraes - remains of an antique ship! This location is one of the best preserved areas in entire Adriatic sea and had therefore been well protected with a cage until further researches have been made. It also represents an attractive diving destination. Two of those amphoraes are exposed in our diving base so that all people can see them and enjoy their beauty.
Price A includes: boat transportation, filling of diving bottle with air and a guide. Special discounts for diving groups in agreement with the group's leader.
Below some reaction to a dive forum:
We have dived with a group of divers for several years with the Aquasport diving base on the island of Rab: If the weather is good, this does not mean too much wind, you can do beautiful dives. Accommodation is good and the food that Tanja prepares for you is delicious. Rico the skipper, instructor, handyman is always willing to find at what hour of the day to go if the wind is in the right hole. Small diving base where everything is possible and nothing should! Opposite the island of Rab lies the island of Cres. This is accessible from Rab but it can take about 2 hours. There is the "Cutin Reef". This reef is almost comparable to Egypt. The islands around Rab also have very nice dive sites: Grgur, Pianora, Maman, Kalifront, Srijednjak etc. And there is even an amphora field that is covered to protect. There would be another Roman galleon beneath the sand that one does not dare to dig up because the wood structure threatens to fall apart. Our choice is always fixed: if we have to choose between Spain or Croatia, Rab always gets the preference. Disadvantage of the Mediterranean and the Adriatic: cold and can not always be sailed out because of the weather! Weethetnie's response: Until two years ago we went diving on the island of Rab. There everything was possible and nothing had to be done. Hours and dive sites you could decide yourself, depending on the weather. The owner of the dive base has discovered an amphora field and has a license exclusively for him. The dive sites are similar to Spain. I recommend to do a dive on "Cutin Reef", richly overgrown and samples of lobsters. If you are going to dive there, you will greet Riko with "nice fucked", he will call you back "nice fucked" because he is still in the delusion that this means good morning! (Haha, he just makes you wise) We stayed with Pivac, which you can book on this site, and this very cozy hotel is located about 1 km from the dive base. Food is super. There are many Belgians in that hotel. In the holiday season, the sea can be a bit busier with other water sports. We always went in the spring, disadvantage is that it is colder in the water. In August, however, it must be comparable to Spain. In any case a cozy island and cozy diving center! Nathalie's response: |
Boat excursie's " Vojka "
Grozdana is the sister of Mr. Pivac Boško and is captain on the tour boat Vojka. With this boat you can experience a different excursion every day and also a nice picnic on an uninhabited island. The berth is in Rab. Going for a whole day with lunch at a reasonable price. We leave in the morning at the port of Rab and then sail through the canal between Barbat and Dolin to the freshwater fjord Zavratnica and after that we sail to the ex - prison island Goli Otok. Here we will discover the island while Grozdana prepares the food. You can choose in advance (at registration) between a meat or fish menu. After the delicious food we sail to the ex prison island (for the women) Grgur. Here come the deer to the mooring quay (do not forget to bring bread or lettuce or carrots and they come to eat from your hand. After a nice break we sail to a nice bay near the town of Rab where the anchor is thrown so everyone can enjoy splashing in the very clean seawater. Then we return to the town of Rab where we dock around 18:00. Do not forget your photo camera because there is a good chance that the dolphins will swim with the boat and play a game. Look for further information in our englisch information folder in the restaurant Pivac in Supetarska Draga. Zavratnica :The freshwater bay Zavratnica is a paradise on earth. It is located on the right side of Jablanac where you transfer to the island of Rab. For the fast boaters, just this tip; do not sail too quickly because too far away from the mainland you sail quickly past the entrance of this freshwater fjord. When you enter the bay you have to adjust its speed. It is a bay that meanders nine hundred meters inland with very clear water. On the left, a ferry was dropped in the war years. This is about 5 meters deep and is of course beautiful for diving or snorkeling. At the end of the bay an underwater source with fresh water flows with ice cold water from the mountains. This water mixes with the warmer salt seawater and that gives a special mixture. Goli otok : (literally the naked island) is an island located in the Adriatic Sea, off the coast of Croatia between the islands of Krk and Rab and the mainland. The island stretches over an area of 4.7 km². It is a pure and uninhabited island with hardly any vegetation. From there the name the "naked island". During the First World War, the Austrians set up a camp for Russian prisoners of war on the then uninhabited island. In post-war Yugoslavia, a prison camp was set up for domestic political opponents on Goli Otok in 1946. From the summer of 1948 (Tito's break with Stalin), mainly communists were interned, accused of Stalinist Comintern sympathies. From 1949 the island became officially a prison and a penal institution (forced labor). The island was guarded by patrol boats that sail around the island and along the coast to drive away uninvited guests and keep them at a distance. Goli Otok was strictly secret. After World War II, 2000 men, communists, left the Italian Monfalcone for Yugoslavia to help build the country. After Tito's break with Stalin, the men were deported to Goli otok. Both Italy and Yugoslavia have not given any publicity to this event. Partly due to the literary work of Claudio Magris, this special episode attracted attention. Since 1989, the island is again accessible to visitors. They drive around with tourists in a train pulled by a tractor. Sveti Grgur : Is an uninhabited island in Croatia, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea near the island of Goli. The island is 6.37 km2 and is 4.2 km long. The highest point is 225 m. In a bay of St. Grgur the deer come to the beach and are fed by tourists. So do not forget to bring old bread. Sveti Grgur is popular with water sports enthusiasts, has beautiful bays, beaches and pine forests. In June, the time of the honey you can see the beekeepers at work. The honey is very tasty and of good quality. In August you can pick fresh figs here. There is also a restaurant where you can keep a nice break. |
The flag :
The Croatian National flag is red-white-blue tricolor (arranged in this order perpendicularly to the staff), with the coat of arms (13 red squares and 12 silver squares arranged intermittently in a 5 times 5 pattern). This coat of arms was affirmed by 15th century documents. It is a very old symbol of Croatia resembling a red-white chess table. Now it also has a crown composed of five regional symbols representing 1) The oldest known Croatian coat of arms, 2) Dubrovnik, 3) Dalmatia, 4) Istria and 5) Slavonia. The coat of arms : The coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia is a historical weapon in the form of a shield. The chess pattern has twenty-five alternating red and white (silver) fields, with the upper left field being red. Above the shield is a crown with five peaks (five smaller coats of arms) representing from left to right, the oldest known Croatian coat of arms and the coats of arms of Dubrovnik, Dalmatia, Istria and Slavonia.
The height of the coats of arms in the crown are 2.5 times the height of the chess fields, the width of all the fields are the same. The oldest known Croatian coat of arms has a blue background with a yellow (golden) six-pointed star and a white (silver) new moon. The coat of arms of Dubrovnik has a navy blue background with two red lanes. The coat of arms of Dalmatia has a blue background with three yellow (golden) lions heads. The coat of arms of Istria has a navy blue background with a yellow (golden) goat with red hooves and horns. The coat of arms of Slavonia has a blue background with a yellow (golden) six-pointed star and two white (silver) lanes with a red track with a marten in between. The entire crown is red outlined. The Croatian coat of arms was shown for the first time in Habsburg between 1508 and 1512 and used at the coronation of Ferdinand the First, King of Croatia in 1527. |
The language :
Croatian orthography is largely phonemic, which means that each phoneme--or distinctive sound--is represented by a single letter and each letter, in turn, generally represents a single sound. This contrasts dramatically with the English version of the Roman alphabet, in which a single letter may represent several different sounds (cf. the value of "u"in the words "cup", "rude" "dull" [American English] and "cute"), while a single sound may be spelled in several different ways (cf. the words "flu", "glue", "to", "too", "two", "shoe", "through", all with the identical vowel /u/.). The Croatian phonemes described below, as well as in the table representing the Croatian alphabet, are unambiguously transcribed in the symbols of the International Phonetic Association. The Croatian language employs the Latin (or Roman) alphabet. All 30 letters are listed below. Some Croatian words look like jaw-breakers! Here are some tips to help pronounce them. |

An alternative is to walk from Anica Kuk to the dripstone cave Manica Pec (40 min.). Or, of course, to add it. This cave has a limited opening (check the website for this). The route is well signposted and not very heavy despite a considerable climb in the beginning. There are also signs for the mountaineers. These are different in color and shape. They must keep walking and walking up. Especially in the beginning it is a decent climb. However, we have seen many children walk the route. There are no fences, so keep an eye on them. Through the centuries they have been connected to the sea via the Bay of Soline and since then the water is salty.
